The Price of Technology

Purchasing any technology these days can get pretty expensive, especially if you want the latest and greatest out there.

As a beginner Affiliate Marketer, you want to have the best tools at your disposal.

However, if you have a limited budget, you want to get the best out of your hard earned cash.

When brand new laptops reach into the thousand dollar price range, it can severely limit your ability to invest in the other tools you'll need for your business.

We buy used laptops instead of full-sized PC's at Walk Affiliate Talk.

Read on to find out how to buy a used laptop.

The Problem

We all suffer from shiny object syndrome at some time or another.  Subconsciously, we want the best and there's nothing wrong with that.

However, starting an Affiliate Marketing or online business requires an investment in not only hardware, but software, (email) autoresponders and other tools that we will get into later in other posts.

The Dilemna

Some people are more comfortable than others buying used equipment.

There's inherent distrust in people that sell used items online.

Common questions or concerns that come up are:

  • Is this item broken in some way?
  • Will I actually get the same item listed?
  • Will I save money buying used?

These are all valid concerns but the truth of the matter is selling websites make it a priority to weed out bad sellers or people looking rip buyers off.

Anyone that doesn't sell good items are given bad reviews, receive complaints and can be banned from selling.

By reading on you'll discover how you can save between $600 to $1500 that you can be used in other areas of your online business.

The Solution

Buying online today is just as safe as physically going to a store.

Let's now discuss where you can not only buy old used laptops, but almost new laptops as well - this place is eBay.

Below we will compare the NEW and USED prices of the following models:

  • Apple MacBook Pro

Apple products are pricey enough because it's (ahem) Apple. So saving around $680 by going used is definitely a big plus.

NEW Microsoft Surface Pro 7 $2559

USED Microsoft Surface Pro 7 $850+$120 Shipping

We were quite surprised at the savings on the Surface Pro 7. A $1580 difference for a used model is just a no brainer.

NEW Lenovo Thinkpad T490S $2535.72

USED Lenovo Thinkpad T490S $1299.49

$2535.72 - $1419.49
Potential Savings
$1116+

Lenovo Thinkpads are commonplace in business environments and corporate offices.  A savings of over $1000 on these trusty machines is music to the ears of any business owner.

Pros and Cons

HOLD UP! Before you go ahead and pull out your credit card, let's discuss some of the PROS and CONS of purchasing a used laptop from a reseller like eBay.

Pros

  • In ALL cases, cost is significantly lower than NEW
  • Selling sites like eBay have many listings
  • You can use savings to upgrade components like hard drives and memory to increase performance
  • Even if cosmetically sub-par, a laptop with decent components will perform like new.
  • Numerous upgrade tutorials available on Youtube for almost any laptop

Cons

  • Judging trustworthiness of a Seller is not 100%
  • You can't physically check the laptop
  • Warranties or Returns can be limited
  • Components are not up to date
  • You will need to have some knowledge in computer repair to update components

Conclusion:

  • The savings from buying a USED laptop is too much to ignore for anyone planning on purchasing one.
  • Used deals are plenty on eBay and if you do your research, you'll find a great deal for sure.

We Recommend:

  • Buy a second-hand laptop

  • Upgrade some components, if necessary

If you are wary of buying USED technology - that's OK.  There is inherent risk in purchasing used equipment and it takes some good research to find the best and safest deal.

We're not here to force you to buy anything.  Or even recommend the best second hand laptop to buy because that comes down to preference.

We just wanted to show that there other great options to buying new.
